James is a company-commercial solicitor who also has experience in media & entertainment and employment law.
His company-commercial experience involves advising start-up companies and ranges from corporate share and asset sales and acquisitions to joint ventures, shareholder and limited liability partnership agreements, incorporations, buybacks and reorganisations. He has also written various business and corporate-commercial articles featured elsewhere in this website.
James’ commercial experience includes work with a yacht brokerage advising on commercial contracts including licence agreements. He also advises on distribution agreements, terms and conditions of business and many other commercial arrangements for other enterprises. James also has experience of the Commercial Agents (Council Directive) Regulations 1993 in relation to the successful claim by an agent against his publisher principal.
James’s media and entertainment work includes an increasing number of clients in the music industry, particularly those on the management and publishing side of the business.
As an employment lawyer, James has drafted and offered guidance on a range of service agreements, statutory complaints and grievance procedures. He has also been involved in sex and race discrimination claims in the Employment Tribunal on behalf of both the claimant and the respondent. He is a member of the Employment Lawyers Association.
Career Details
Prior to becoming a solicitor, James completed a degree in American Studies during which he spent a year in Santa Cruz, California. He subsequently trained as a journalist and was employed for several years as a writer at an international news and features agency. James also worked for some years at a leading online record shop. He trained at Ross & Craig and qualified in 2007.
